This course is ideal for anyone working in a sports environment and tailored to meet your needs assessment in your chosen field, it covers the emergency first aid at work course covering a broad syllabus including the recognition and treatment of a wider range of conditions but in addition has an emphasis on common sports related injuries.

Qualification

Emergency first aid at work- Sports & Basic first aid for sports certificate;

HSE compliant under the Health and Safety (First-aid) Regulations 1981. Taught in accordance with current guidelines on adult basic life support published by the Resuscitation Council (UK), and for other aspects of first aid, in accordance with current guidelines published by the Voluntary Aid Societies and other published guidelines that are supported by a responsible body of medical opinion. The training and assessment will be delivered in accordance with currently accepted standards for first-aid practice and follow the skills for health assessment principles for first aid qualifications. This also meets the requirements of your own needs assessment and your sports governing body

Course Content

The HSE guidelines set out a syllabus for emergency first aid at work sports
understand the role of the first-aider,
including reference to: the importance of preventing cross infection; the need for recording incidents and actions;
use of available equipment;
assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
Sports Concussion Assessment tool (SCAT)
This course now includes a practical, automated external defibrillator (AED) awareness using trainer AEDs.

ASSESSMENT

This will be by ongoing assessment with both theory and practical sessions and conformation through knowledge checks to ensure all learning outcomes are met to the required standard.

Pre-requisites

Selected HSE first aiders should physically able to perform the relevant actions and techniques included in the syllabus. For reasonable adjustments for disabilities please contact VTS
