  1. administer first aid to a casualty with:
injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
    chest injuries
    eye injuries
    sudden poisoning
    anaphylactic shock
  1. recognise the presence of major illnesses and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes).

This course now includes a practical, automated external defibrillator (AED) training session using trainer AEDs.

This will be by ongoing assessment with both theory and practical sessions and confirmation through knowledge checks to ensure all learning outcomes are met to the required standard.

Selected HSE first aiders should physically able to perform the relevant actions and techniques included in the syllabus. Reasonable adjustments can be made for disabilities contact VTS.
